Blencathra
In our quest to reach the top of all 214 of Alfred Wainwrights most notable peaks, the time has come for us to summit the one with my favourite name - Blencathra
I have driven past this mountain a number of times, it towers above one of the main routes for me into the Lake District - the A66, and its right on the north eastern fringes of this mountainous region. So much so, that you can turn around and look behind you, and you can see the hilly terrain immediately smooth out below you into almost a flat horizon, and it somewhat surreal to see it drop away like that, as though these hills had been laid out on a tabletop.
As i’m writing this now, it’s been a fair few months since this trip. Truth be told I started scanning these images, and lost all motivation to sit at my computer and go through the time consuming task of scanning / cropping / dust removing, etc etc, not just for these photos, but all the photos I had been taking. As it stands now, there is 7 other rolls of developed film sat next to me in negative sleeves waiting to pass through my scanner, and next week I go on my first proper, long distance holiday abroad, for which i’m taking a recently acquired camera, I hope to shoot lots more film!
So I guess its time to knuckle down, plough through some scanning, typing, and posting, to try to catch up!
Because this peak had a name that was special to me, I had been waiting for nice conditions, I didn’t want those views to be lost In a sea of grey cloud. Fortunately I was blessed with a good sky, albeit, it was very windy on this occasion!
Accompanying me and Bo was my trusted M4, I’ve really enjoyed using this camera, its an absolute joy to use, but sometimes I do wish I had a little more width that 35mm in my lens selection! today its paired with one of my last rolls of Fuji c200, since Fuji discontinued production a little while back.
I came across this film in Tesco’s, as two double packs randomly in the reduced section a few years ago, having never seen they actually sold film before. I bought them, fridged them, and never touched them until last year. Im really quite sad that I hadn’t shot it in the past before they announced the discontinuation, because I love how they rendered these images. There’s an almost dreamy quality in the purple/green hues, and I really enjoy that.
Anyway you have probably noticed I am rambling, its definitely not because of how much time has passed since I did this hike…
